Double Up Food Bucks is a nutrition incentive program in which funds are provided to encourage SNAP participants to purchase fruits and vegetables at farmers markets and farm stands. SNAP incentive programs like Double Up Food Bucks are gaining traction nationally and are shown to increase the purchase and consumption of fresh produce by SNAP participants, in addition to bolstering local farm economies.
With Double Up, SNAP participants receive $2 in “food bucks” for every $2 of SNAP benefits that they redeem at participating farmers markets and farm stands, up to $10 each market day. While SNAP benefits can be used for many items, including fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy and bread, Double Up Food Bucks can only be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, mushrooms, beans, cut herbs, nuts and veggie starts.
Willamette Farm and Food Coalition partners with Portland’s Farmers Market Fund to coordinate and sponsor Double Up Food Bucks programs throughout Lane County. WFFC sponsored Double Up’s implementation at Eugene’s Lane County Farmers Market in 2016. New in 2017, we’re helping Springfield Farmers’ Market and other markets offer Double Up too. This expansion is only possible with community support. Thank you for supporting WFFC and the Double Up program.
